Why vinyl works on busy stairs

Stairs take more abuse than any other part of the house. Basement stairs in a Colorado home carry laundry, groceries, skis, and dogs, and the treads at the bottom often get snowmelt tracked across them. Vinyl resists scratches, wipes clean, and stays quieter than hardwood, which is why many families pick it for the staircase that connects the main floor to a finished walk-out basement.

Floor Crafters installs vinyl stairs in homes around Broomfield, Boulder, and Louisville, usually in the same plank we put on the floor at the top or bottom so the whole run looks like one design. Our mobile design showroom lets you test that match with samples right on your own stairs.

Why vinyl works on busy stairs

The nosing is the detail that matters

The front edge of each stair is where a vinyl job either looks finished or looks like an afterthought. We use matching nosings, whether that is a factory piece or one fabricated to suit your plank, so the edge reads as part of the tread instead of a contrasting strip.

  • Textured surface to help with traction
  • Click-lock or glue-down methods depending on your stair structure
  • Treads and risers wrapped in vinyl or painted, your choice
  • Same look as your adjoining floor - see our luxury vinyl plank options
  • Prefer warmth and softness instead? Compare carpet stairs

Installation that stays tight and quiet

Most vinyl stair complaints come from loose treads and weak adhesion. Our crew removes the old carpet or surface, pulls staples and tack strip, checks every tread for movement, and re-secures anything that squeaks before the new surface goes on. Damaged or crumbly treads are repaired or replaced rather than covered up.

Colorado's dry winters can make older stair framing creak as wood shrinks, so this prep step is where we spend time. We also clean up, haul away debris, and check back within ten days of installation. If your project includes real wood steps, see how we handle hardwood stairs.

Vinyl Flooring Stairs - frequently asked questions

A textured vinyl surface offers decent traction, but any smooth floor can be slick in socks. We are happy to discuss options for households with young kids or older relatives.

We remove the carpet, pad, staples, and tack strip first, then inspect each tread. Sound treads are leveled and covered; damaged ones are replaced.

Not when the structure is prepared properly. We re-secure loose treads before installing, which often makes the staircase quieter than it was.

With a matching nosing, so the edge reads as part of the stair. Ask to see samples during your free estimate.

Stairs can be done on their own, though many customers pair them with a room. Our vinyl flooring page explains the pairing options.
