Many homes around Broomfield, Louisville, and Boulder have beautiful old wood hiding under worn finish or carpet. Refinishing can restore that wood without the cost and disruption of replacing it. Floor Crafters has been working on Front Range floors since 1988, and refinishing is a core part of what we do.
We refinish solid hardwood and many engineered floors, and we are glad to look at 1960s ranch oak, Boulder bungalow fir and oak, and newer builder-grade wood alike. During your free in-home estimate we check the wood's condition and tell you plainly if a lighter fix or a full sanding is the right answer.
Three levels of refinishing
Not every floor needs to be sanded to bare wood. We recommend the lightest approach that will actually solve the problem.
- Screen and recoat - a light refresh for floors in good shape with minor scuffs. Fast, with no color change.
- Buff and coat - smooths light surface wear before a new topcoat, with little dust.
- Full sand and refinish - takes the floor to bare wood, removing deep scratches and old finish. This is the route if you want a new stain color.
- Local tip - if a floor was neglected under carpet, we often find it needs only a full sand and a fresh finish.

Once a floor is bare, color options open up: natural, honey, grey-toned, dark brown, and many in between. We test stain on your actual wood in your actual light, which matters because Boulder-area homes often get strong south and west sun that changes how color reads through the day.

Controlled dust and a full-service crew
Sanding does create dust, so we use dust-collection equipment and seal off adjoining rooms to keep it contained. We handle moving furniture, protecting what stays, and cleaning up when we are done.
Colorado's dry winters can reopen small gaps in old boards, and we can fill or note them during the work. If boards are damaged beyond refinishing, our floor repair service can replace them. Within ten days of finishing we check in to make sure the floor is performing well.
