Why laminate is back, and better than ever

Today's laminate is nothing like the thin click-floor many people remember. Modern planks have sharp printed wood grain, textured surfaces that line up with the pattern, and tight bevels that look like real boards from across the room. For a Broomfield or Boulder County family with dogs, kids, and a lot of mud-season foot traffic, it is a tough surface at a friendly price.

Floor Crafters brings laminate samples to your home with our mobile design showroom, so you can judge each plank against your cabinets, walls, and the light from your windows. If you are comparing options, our luxury vinyl plank and engineered hardwood pages show how they stack up.

Why laminate is back, and better than ever

AC ratings - the spec worth knowing

The AC (Abrasion Class) rating tells you how well the wear layer resists scuffs and scratches. We stick to heavier-duty ratings for family homes, because a floor that dulls in two years is not a bargain.

  • AC3 - light residential use only, such as a rarely used guest room; we generally pass on it
  • AC4 - heavy residential duty and our default for most living areas and bedrooms
  • AC5 - the step up for entryways, hallways, and homes with big dogs
  • Thicker 10 to 12 mm planks - feel more solid underfoot and bridge small subfloor flaws
  • Water-resistant cores - worth asking about for kitchens, laundry rooms, and mudrooms

How we install laminate that does not squeak or peak

Laminate floats on top of the subfloor, so a flat surface matters more than almost anything else. We check the floor with a straightedge, grind or patch high and low spots, and lay the right underlayment, including a vapor barrier when we are working on a concrete slab. Because Colorado's dry winters shrink materials and wet spring weeks swell them, we leave the proper expansion gap at every wall and hide it with baseboard or quarter-round.

Our crew moves your furniture, removes the old flooring, and cleans up each day. Within ten days we check in to confirm the floor is performing, backed by The Floor Crafters guarantee™. Ready to see samples at home? Book a free estimate, or read what local customers say.

Laminate Flooring - frequently asked questions

No. Laminate has a fiberboard core and a printed wear layer, while vinyl plank is made of PVC and is fully waterproof. Laminate usually feels a bit more like wood underfoot, and vinyl is the safer bet for moisture. We show both so you can choose, and you can read about our vinyl flooring too.

Yes, if you choose a water-resistant product and wipe spills promptly. We would not put standard laminate in a bathroom or laundry room with a history of leaks. For a wet-prone room, tile or vinyl may be wiser.

With normal care, a quality laminate can serve a family for many years. Longevity depends on the product, the subfloor prep, and how well it is maintained, and we will give you honest expectations before you buy.

Yes. We pick up and haul away carpet, vinyl, or old laminate, and we can handle floor demolition prep when the job calls for more than a quick tear-out.

Often, yes, with a vapor barrier over a tested slab. Radiant heat requires a product approved for it, and we confirm that before ordering.
