Marble, travertine, slate, and limestone
No two pieces of natural stone are alike, and that is the appeal. Veining, color, and texture vary from tile to tile, so a stone floor has a character that manufactured tile can only imitate. It also needs more care in the setting and the sealing, and that is where an experienced crew matters.
Floor Crafters has served Boulder County homeowners since 1988. We install natural stone on interior floors, bathroom floors, shower walls, and fireplace faces, and we bring stone samples to your home so you can judge them in your own light.

Choosing stone for the room
Each stone has its own personality and its own upkeep. The right one depends on the room and how much care you want to give it.
If low maintenance is the priority, we will happily show you stone-look options in porcelain tile next to the real thing.
- Marble - classic and elegant for bathrooms; it etches from acids, so use gentle cleaners
- Travertine - warm earth tones with a soft, slightly porous surface
- Slate - textured and rugged, a natural for mudrooms and kitchens
- Limestone - a quiet matte look for bathrooms and powder rooms
- Granite tile - very hard and dense for busy floors

Most natural stone is porous and should be sealed after installation and again every year or two, depending on the stone and the room. We explain the schedule for your stone and the cleaners to use. Colorado's hard water can leave mineral film on stone and grout, so we recommend wiping wet areas dry and using pH-neutral products.
Stone also likes a very flat, stiff base. Over concrete slabs that may move with expansive clay, or over plywood, we add the right crack-isolation or uncoupling layer. Our crew also takes care of moving furniture, removal, prep, and cleanup. See our mosaic tile page for small-format stone accents, or ask for a free estimate.

Natural Stone Tile - frequently asked questions
Yes, in most cases. Marble, travertine, slate, and limestone are porous and can stain without a sealer. We seal after installation and explain how often to refresh it.
Marble can etch from lemon, vinegar, and wine. Some homeowners enjoy the worn-in patina, while others prefer a flawless look. If that sounds like you, we will show you marble-look porcelain too.
Yes, stone and in-floor heating get along well. Many newer homes in Erie, Superior, and Broomfield have radiant systems, so share your setup with us at the estimate.
Natural stone varies, so a small sample shows the range but not every tile. We lay out tiles before setting to blend shade and veining across the floor.
